Plaça Margarida Xirgu
Monuments and sculptures
On the façade of the Mercat de les Flors, in Montjuïc, hundreds of ceramic pots and botijos appear to burst from the wall. Frederic Amat’s mural, a vibrant stage set stretching 30 metres long and 17 metres high, transforms the architecture into a scene where materials seem to come alive. Inaugurated in 2001, the installation connects with popular memory and everyday life in the neighbourhood, while also challenging traditional sculptural language. There is no order or symmetry – only the intuition of an artist who masters the art of chaos.
