The Monument al Dr Robert is a public sculpture in Plaça de Tetuan, paying tribute to the doctor and former mayor Bartomeu Robert. Designed by Domènech i Montaner and executed by Josep Llimona, this monumental work symbolises the people’s gratitude to a politician who was approachable and deeply committed. Although removed and silenced during the Francoist dictatorship, it now stands proudly in its original location, 12 metres tall, with the figure of the doctor and politician surrounded by allegories of the arts, trades and Catalan identity.

This is good to know

Although today the Monument al Dr. Robert presides quietly over Plaça de Tetuan, few recall that this piece by Josep Llimona was removed for decades, only returning to public view in the 1980s.
The allegorical figures surrounding the doctor embody the civic virtues and ideals of a Barcelona that, at the start of the 20th century, saw modernity as a force for transformation.
