Elogi de l’aigua (Eulogy of Water) is a monumental concrete sculpture suspended above the pond in Parc de la Creueta del Coll, created by Eduardo Chillida in 1987. Weighing 54 tonnes and held by almost invisible steel cables, it appears to hover above the water in a quiet tribute to the element itself. The solidity of the concrete contrasts with the movement of air and water, while its reflection doubles the work and visually lightens its weight. Geometric and organic forms come together as Chillida explores the relationship between fullness and emptiness, between the material and the immaterial, integrating the work into the site’s industrial memory.

This is good to know

When the water is still, the sculpture is reflected almost perfectly, creating a striking optical effect. In those moments, its weight seems to dissolve and the work becomes a suspended image.
The park wasn’t always so quiet: until the 1970s, this was an industrial area, and that transformation is part of what you see today.
